Windows Keyboard shortcut key

Shortcut keys help you use functions faster, easier. In this post, i can't list all shortcut key in windows however, i hope it helps you in using computer.

Basic shortcut keys (almost of us familiar with them)

Ctrl + a : select all (in Windows Explorer..)

Ctrl + x : cut

Ctrl + c : copy

Ctrl + v : paste

Ctrl + z : undo

Ctrl + s : save (in notepad, MS-Word...)

Ctrl + Esc : same as Windows key - open Start menu

Ctrl + Tab : turn betwen tab inside a window.

Function shortcut keys:

F1 : open help screen

F2 : rename ( a file or folder)

F3 : open Windows search.

F4 : view common address in MS Internet Explorer.

F5 : refresh

F6 : move cursor to Address bar in MS Internet Explorer

F10: active menu bar.

F11: view full screen mode (in Windows Media, Internet Explorer)

F12: open save as dialog box.

Shortcut key with Windows key:

Windows + E: open "My Computer"/"Computer"

Windows + F: open Windows search - as you press F3

Windows + R: open Run dialog box - more easy to run some program

Windows + Tab:
  • moving between opening program on taskbar (Windows XP)
  • moving between opening program in cascadling effect (Windows Vista, 7)


Windows + U:

  • Untility Management (Windows XP)
  • Open Ease To Access Center (Windows Vista, 7)

Windows + L: lock computer

Windows + P: turn between monitor and projector (Windows Vista, 7)

Windows + T: turn between program that pinned on taskbar (Windows 7) - as Windows + Tab in
Windows XP


Windows + Pause: open System Properties

Windows + G: open Gadget (Windows Vista, 7)

Windows + B: access Notification Area of taskbar (usually at the right buttom of the screen)

Windows + M: minimize all opening windows

Windows + D: show desktop

Windows + Space: show desktop in quick view

Windows + 1,2,3..: open the 1st, 2nd, 3rd... program that are pinned on taskbar (Windows 7)

Windows + right/left arrow: restore active windows to half of monitor at the right/left hand side (Windows 7).

Windows + up arrow: maximize active windows

Windows + down arrow: restore active windows

Windows + F1: Windows help screen

Shortcut key with Alt:

Alt key is often used to access menu bar. Usually, when you use a program, you can press Alt + underlined letter in Menubar to select:




Just focus on underlined letter and press alt key with it.

Alt + D: to Address bar (in Internet Explorer).

Alt + Tab: turn between opening windows.

Alt + Print Screen: print screen of active window.

Alt + Space: open resize menu of windows - also focus on underlined letter

Alt + F4: close active window.

Shortcut key with Shift:

Shift + Delete: cut

Shift + Insert: paste

More Complicated shortcut key :D

I called them complicated because we must use 3 keys to use:

Ctrl + Alt + Delete: open task manager or display urgent menu (very popular)

Ctrl + Shift + Esc: open task manger.

Ctrl + Alt + Tab: turn between opening windows even after release Crl, Alt

Ctrl + Windows + Tab: turn between opening windows - using cascadling effect even release Ctrl, Windows (windows vista, 7)
